Studies:
Associate Professor Evangelos Zigouris has received his BSc in Physics and his PhD in Electronics, both from the Physics Dept., University of Patras.

Responsibilities :   Teaching, both at UG and PG level and,
Researching in the Embedded System Design Area with Emphasis in Telecommunications, Image Processing and in Computer Architecture.

Since 1984 to 2003, Associate Professor Dr. Evangelos Zigouris, has serviced at the same Dept. in various positions (first as a Research Assistant and as a Lecturer and then as an Ass. Professor). He has been active in teaching both at UG and PG level and in researching, mainly in the area of Digital Filter Structures and in Embedded Systems.

Between September 1982 to February 1984, he has been with the University of Linkoping, Electrical Engineering Dept., Sweden, as a Visiting Research Assistant, working on the Design and the Development of Digital Filter Structures.

He started his academic career in January 1975 as a Research Assistant at the Physics Dept., University of Patras, by doing his PhD.


Current research interests include:

• Remote controlled embedded systems, Systems for real-time digital signal and image processing that are controlled via Ethernet/Internet.
• Development of architectures for remote laboratories with emphasis in Signal Processing Systems with DSPs (R-DSP Lab).
• CPUs, DSP cores using VHDL/Verilog in FPGAs.
• Control and Data Acquisition Systems. Voice Processing (LP/LD-CELP coding, non-linear filters, etc).
• Image processing and algorithm implementation concentrating on Image Segmentation and Image Coding.
• Software/Hardware co-design for telecommunication applications especially focused on real-time voice coding as well as on modems development by means of DSPs.

Has participated in research or educational programs funded by the European Union and/or the Greek government.

Recent Programs et al.:

• [2006-2008] "Design and Development of Field Programmable Analog Arrays (FPAAs) for Prototyping Analog Filters Using Wave Filter Structures", Operational Program for Educational and Vocational Training II (ΕΠΕΑΕΚ ΙΙ), Program Pythagoras II.
• [2009-2010] "Control and Communication with Data Acquisition Devices Independently of the Operating System", Innovation Voucher, in Cooperation with Thyratron LTD.


Current teaching activities:

He is teaching courses at undergraduate (UG) or postgraduate (PG) level in the following subjects, at least the last ten years:

- Digital Electronics (UG)
- Microcomputer Architecture (UG)
- System Design with μPs and μCs (UG)
- Sensors, μCs and Data Acquisition Systems (PG)
- Digital Signal Processing System Design with DSPs (PG)
- Computer Architecture –Digital Systems Design with VHDL (PG)

Other activities:

During the last five years, Associate Prof. Dr. Evangelos Zigouris has been responsible for the Design, Development and Implementation of three new PG level Labs, with 10 Workstations each, to support the subjects, System Design with DSPs, Digital System Design with VHDL and Sensors, μCs and Data Acquisition Systems. These Labs, internationally competitive, were built correspondingly around Texas Instruments DSPs based boards (TMS 320C6713 and C6416), Alteras’ DE2 boards and Arduino boards and funded mostly by the Greek state and TIs donation. For each of these Labs he has also written a series of Lab Exercises (in Greek), for the Postgraduate Students.

Associate Prof. Dr. Evangelos Zigouris has supervised or actively participated in several Ph.Ds., MSc Theses and Diploma Theses.

Has published 46 papers in Journals and Conference Proceedings.

Has over 80 references to his work in Journals, Conference Proceedings, Books, and Theses.
