Γεννήθηκε στην Πάτρα το 1958. Σπούδασε Φυσική στο Τμήμα Φυσικής του Πανεπιστημίου Πατρών από το 1976 ως το 1980 (8.41). Η διδακτορική του διατριβή ολοκληρώθηκε το καλοκαίρι του 1985 στο Εργαστήριο Ηλεκτρονικής του Τμήματος Φυσικής. Υπηρέτησε τη στρατιωτική του θητεία από τον Αύγουστο του 1985 ως το Μάιο του 1987. Από το 1987 είναι μέλος ΔΕΠ στο Εργαστήριο Ηλεκτρονικής του Τομέα Ηλεκτρονικής και Υπολογιστών του Τμήματος Φυσικής του Πανεπιστημίου Πατρών. Το 1989 εκλέχτηκε Λέκτορας, το 1992 Επίκουρος Καθηγητής, το 2001 Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής και το 2005 Καθηγητής.
Έχει εργαστεί ερευνητικά για δύο χρόνια σε Πανεπιστήμια του Καναδά (Toronto και Quebec City) σε θέματα επεξεργασίας ψηφιακής εικόνας και αναγνώρισης αντικειμένων καθώς και επεξεργασίας σημάτων Radar.
Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα εστιάζονται στις περιοχές της ψηφιακής επεξεργασίας σήματος, της αναγνώρισης αντικειμένων και της τηλεπισκόπισης. Ειδικότερα, τα τελευταία χρόνια έχει δώσει έμφαση στην επεξεργασία χειρόγραφου κειμένου, στις τεχνικές σύνθεσης αποφάσεων καθώς και στη μελέτη των στατιστικών χαρακτηριστικών της ηχούς του Radar από θάλασσα και από ξηρά. Στα θέματα της τηλεπισκόπισης, όπου χρησιμοποιεί δεδομένα SAR, πολυφασματικά και εικόνες υπερύθρου, εστιάζει σε θέματα επιτήρησης περιοχών της γης με σκοπό την ανίχνευση αλλαγών στην επιφάνειά της ή το χαρακτηρισμό αντικειμένων. Τελευταία εμπλέκεται στην επεξεργασία εικόνων Αστροσωματιδιακής Φυσικής. Έχει πάνω από 80 εργασίες σε διεθνή περιοδικά και συνέδρια και περισσότερες από 260 αναφορές.
Διδάσκει πάνω από 25 χρόνια Ηλεκτρονικά, Ψηφιακή Επεξεργασία Σήματος, Αναγνώριση Προτύπων, Τηλεπισκόπιση και Προγραμματισμό. Η συγγραφική του δραστηριότητα περιλαμβάνει το βιβλίο «Delta-Sigma Modulators, Modeling, Design and Applications», Imperial College Press, Singapore, 2003, το βιβλίο «Εισαγωγή στην πληροφορική», Εκδόσεις Ελληνικά Γράμματα, το βιβλίο για το Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο «Ψηφιακή Επεξεργασία Εικόνων και Σημάτων» καθώς και πανεπιστημιακές σημειώσεις για Εισαγωγή στην C++.
Είναι αναπληρωτής εκπρόσωπος της Ελλάδας στον Ευρωπαϊκό Οργανισμό Διαστήματος από τον Μάρτιο του 2005 στην επιτροπή διοίκησης και οικονομικών (AFC ESA committee). Έχει διατελέσει κριτής σε εθνικά και ευρωπαϊκά προγράμματα. Είναι Associate Editor στο περιοδικό Pattern Recognition, ενώ διετέλεσε για τρία χρόνια Associate Editor στο περιοδικό IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems, Part II. Είναι μέλος του IEEE (Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) και της Ένωση Ελλήνων Φυσικών.
Τη διετία 2001-2003 διετέλεσε Πρόεδρος στο Τμήμα Φυσικής του Πανεπιστημίου Πατρών, Αναπληρωτής Πρόεδρος τη διετία 2003-2005, ενώ για τη διετία 2005-2007 ήταν πάλι Πρόεδρος στο Τμήμα Φυσικής. Από το 2006 ως το 2010 ήταν Αντιπρύτανης Στρατηγικού Σχεδιασμού και Ανάπτυξης της Έρευνας στο Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών.
